No one walking the dementia journey has to walk alone.

I have developed a friendship over the past year with a couple of brave people who attend our Memory Cafe.  This couple is walking the dementia journey themselves--authentically and with courageous vulnerability.  They are doing exactly what needs to be done in our community to change the conversation and help remove the stigma that is often associated with the terms "dementia" and  one of the causes of dementia,  "Alzheimer''s Disease."    This couple is sharing their journey with people wherever they go, including their dentist.  Debbie and Jerry asked their dentist and his staff if they wanted to participate in education to become more aware of how best to serve their clients who are living with dementia.  Not surprisingly, the entire office staff responded with eager compassion and a desire to learn. Also not surprisingly, several of the staff members are on the dementia journey themselves with their own loved ones.  Following Debbie and Jerry''s example, along with Dr. Boyes and his dedicated staff, people in dementia-friendly communities of Northern Colorado don''t need to walk their journeys alone...and we will all be better because of it.
